Tree
Manuscripts, Hoorn, Holland, 1826
Paper, ink, paint
The visual and decorative depiction of a family tree is rare in Judaica.
This example was made for a celebration in honor of Ya'akov ben Moshe
Yehudah van Halten in Holland. While the entire text is in Hebrew, the
name of the recipient is at the bottom in Latin letters. The page is signed
by the scribe who prepared it, "Moshe ben Akiva, Sofer Stam."
