Matzah
Cover
Hungary, c.1920
Linen, lace, silk thread, embroidered, sewn
This matzah cover is made by a very skilled embroiderer utilizing
lace techniques. The Hebrew words are in a beautiful embroidered script
in colored silk thread, including an inscription on the back identifying
this textile as a gift from a mother to her son and daugther-in-law. Carried
out in the lace technique is a depiction of the paschal sacrifice and
a basket of flowers, representing the theme of spring.
