Minting coins is one of the special prerogatives of a sovereign state. One of the ways that the modern State of Israel asserts its connection to the ancient Jewish state is the use of motives from ancient coins on modern ones. In fact, ancient elements are incorporated in the design almost every modern Israel coin, from 1948 until now. Many of the elements are repeated in several issues of the same coin.
